Why childproof your home?
As parents, we all have the responsibility of protecting our children and providing a safe and healthy environment for them to grow and explore. As with most things in this world, the average home is constructed with adults in mind and not designed for the vulnerabilities and limited capabilities of small children. Additional steps have to be taken to minimize the potential for accidental injury to our little ones. There really are hazards around every corner in every home. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes an injury for parents to suddenly become aware of the dangers that are present in the very place they thought was safe.
According to Safekids worldwide, each year, there are an estimated 3.4 million visits to hospital emergency departments by children ages 14 and under for injuries that occurred in the home. Nearly 2 million of these visits are by children ages 4 and under. Young children are at increased risk from accidental injuries in the home because it is where they spend most of their time. These injuries range from minor scrapes and bumps, permanently disabling injuries, to death. Accidental home injury deaths to children are caused primarily by airway obstruction, fire and burns, drowning, firearms, falls, choking and poisoning. All of which are preventable.
With this in mind, you should take the steps necessary to make your home as safe as you once perceived it to be. Prevention is key, and that is where we come in. Rocky Mountain Childproofing, LLC is dedicated to assisting parents accomplish their desire to improve the safety of their home and their child’s environment.
